Open Balkan member-states sign food security agreement
Skopje, 2 September 2022 (MIA) – North Macedonia, Serbia and Albania signed a food security agreement within the ‘Wine Vision by Open Balkan’ fair in Belgrade on Friday.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Ljupcho Nikolovski wrote in a Facebook post that the agreement would ensure mutual support among Open Balkan member-states in case of food supply chains’ interruption as a result of the global crisis.
“Today we reached another milestone that will benefit our people. Let me congratulate all governments for showing they truly care about their people by signing this food security agreement. This is just the start of a bigger idea – development of a comprehensive action plan for long-term food security until 2030. We are reaffirming solidarity as the fundamental principles of Open Balkan, strengthening regional cooperation and opening borders for continued trade exchange and flow of supply for the basic agriculture food products without any restrictions,” says Minister Nikolovski.
According to him, the agreement is another confirmation that Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia stand together in these difficult times.
“Thanks to Open Balkan and guided by a common goal, amid a crisis, we are securing enough food for the three neighboring people. Therefore, if a country faces food shortages, the other two are committed to help, without any trading restrictions, by providing the basic agriculture food products. This is Open Balkan, these are three friendly governments, three neighboring nations united in a clear vision on how true goodneighborliness based on solidarity should look like,” says Nikolovski.
