Moscow, 14 March 2024 (dpa/MIA) - One person has been killed and three injured in Ukrainian attacks on the Russian border region of Belgorod, Russian authorities said on Thursday morning.
One person was killed inside a car, while one man and two women were injured, regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram. Buildings were also damaged in the attack, he said.
The Russian Defence Ministry said eight Ukrainian missiles had been shot down by air defences on their approach to Belgorod.
It was not possible to initially verify the claims.
Initial images circulating on social media did not show whether the damage was caused by falling debris or whether the missiles managed to strike their targets.
Russia, which began an all-out war on Ukraine more than two years ago, has repeatedly been reporting of Ukrainian attacks particularly in the border region. However the number of victims and the extent of damage are much lower than those inflicted on the neighbouring country.
