Nuredini: Greater energy independence, targeting investments in renewable energy sources
Skopje, 10 November 2022 (MIA) – On the sidelines of the COP27 climate summit, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Geoffrey Pyatt, U.S. EXIM Bank President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis, and Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil-Daniel Popescu.   Talks focused on current regional energy issues, plans for establishing a regional approach and achieving greater energy independence, the Environment Ministry said in a press release.   In that regard, interlocutors stressed the need for parallel support and targeting investments in renewable energy sources.   In addition, Romanian Minister Popescu briefed participants in the meeting on the small modular nuclear reactor to be built in Romania.   As part of his participation in the COP27 climate summit in Egypt, Environment Minister Nuredini also held a working meeting with UNOPS Acting Executive Director Jens Wandel, for talks on intensifying and expanding cooperation with UNOPS towards resolving issues with industrial hotspots.  Nuredini thanked for the cooperation in carrying out the cleaning up of lindane at the OHIS landfill, requesting that activities be extended to other areas of risk to human health and environment, the Environment Ministry said in a press release.   “Participants in the meeting agreed that UNOPS can also assist in the implementation of other projects of interest to the Ministry and the state through the use of their units for procurement and project cycle management,” reads the press release.
