Skopje, 2 February 2023 (MIA) - After signing the loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which provided EUR 55 million for the development of the regional waste management system, the European Commission, within the Western Balkans Investment Framework, approved further EUR 22.5 million as an investment donation, Environment Minister Naser Nuredini said Thursday.  

He added that with the EUR 9 million provided as donation by the Swiss government, the total amount of funds for setting up a regional waste management system across Polog, Southwest, Pelagonia, Vardar and Southeast planning regions is over EUR 87 million.  

“The regional waste management system in the east and northeast regions is financed through the IPA programs and the start of the tender procedure is expected soon, while grant funds have also been secured for the Skopje planning region through the European IPA funds, and the project is yet to start,” said Nuredini.
