Nuredini: Developed countries need to support just transition of developing countries
Skopje, 20 July 2021 (MIA) – Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini addressed on Tuesday the first session of the informal meeting of EU environment ministers, dedicated to international climate talks and preparations for COP26. He presented at the event North Macedonia’s improved national ambition to achieve 51-percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, i.e. a 82% reduction of net emissions, the Environment Ministry said in a press release. In that regard, Nuredini stressed the need for developed countries to support smaller economies and vulnerable countries, such as North Macedonia, in their efforts to achieve sustainable development, just energy transition, as well as strengthening human resources and building infrastructure. During Tuesday’s session, which was also attended by representatives of candidate countries, environment ministers discussed the EU’s leadership position in climate action, taking steps to ensure the success of the Glasgow Climate Change Conference and the final operationalization of the Paris Agreement.
