Number of new COVID-19 infections, fatalities drops: report
Skopje, 7 December 2021 (MIA) – A total of 2,275 new COVID-19 infections were registered in 35 cities across the country from November 29 until December 5, down 17.3 percent compared to the previous week, with Skopje reporting a majority of those, shows the latest report of the Public Health Institute.
During the same period, 16,948 samples were tested in labs equipped to detect COVID-19, down 9,8 percent compared to the previous week.
People from all age groups tested positive with 22.9% of those being over 60. A decrease in new infections was registered in all age groups. Of the new cases, 1,215 were female (53.4%) and 1,060 were male (46.6%).
During the same period, 2,540 recovered after isolating at home or in hospital, says the report.
Last week, 40 re-infections were registered, down 9.1% compared to the previous week.
Also, 68 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in 18 cities, which is a drop of 30.6% compared to the previous week. Most fatalities were from the capital Skopje and aged over 60, shows the report.
