North Macedonia to issue 90-day visas to Afghan civilians, says Zaev
Skopje, 23 August 2021 (MIA) – The Afghan civilians we said we are prepared to offer refuge to will be issued 90-day visa for temporary stay, even though some have already announced they will leave the country in 10-15 days after arriving, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Monday when asked what will be the legal status of the Afghans that are set to arrive in the coming days. North Macedonia has announced it will shelter Afghan humanitarians and activists who were the local staff of the UN, NDI, IRI, etc in Afghanistan. “We are taking them in because we have a bigger heart from the rest at the moment, because the region had been hit by similar trauma in recent history and we are well aware how important it is to lend a hand, to help,” Zaev stressed, adding the government has no prejudice and has decided to be part of the international humanitarian mission. He said that costs, including accommodation, will be covered by the United States, international organizations, including the Open Society Foundation, IRI, etc. North Macedonia will cover the costs for transportation to hotels, COVID-19 vaccination, PCR test, health examination, etc.
