North Macedonia marks Car Free Day
Skopje, 22 September 2021 (MIA) – Motorists, including students, bikers and hikers among others, on Wednesday marked World Car Free Day by organizing bicycle parades across the country and also the end of European Mobility Week, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said.
Under the motto “Safe and Healthy with Sustainable Mobility”, it said, the campaign aims at promoting alternative, sustainable and common forms of transportation as a way to reduce the use of cars and reduce harmful emissions towards promoting the European decarbonisation strategy.
European Mobility Week took place September 16-22 under the auspices of the Environment Ministry, the national coordinator.
“Despite the restrictions introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, seven cities in the country joined the observances, including Veles, Skopje, Berovo, Prilep, Bitola, Kochani and Strumica, in line with the epidemiological situation and the health protocols in place,” said the press release.
This year, European Mobility Week was observed in 3,042 cities worldwide.
