North Macedonia hits 48.3% daily COVID-19 infection rate; 779 out of 1,613 PCR tests positive
Skopje, 22 July 2022 (MIA) — Of the 1,613 SARS-CoV-2 tests done in North Macedonia's laboratories over the past 24 hours, 779 came back positive for the airborne virus. Of them, 173 were confirmed reinfections. And four deaths have been added to the country's official COVID-19 death toll, which is 9,353 at the moment, health authorities said Friday. According to the Ministry of Health citing Institute of Public Health data, there are now 4,136 active coronavirus cases nationwide, of which 1,965 in Skopje. Of the 779 new cases, 345 were diagnosed in Skopje. New SARS-CoV-2 infections were also reported in Bitola – 61, Kumanovo – 45, Prilep – 39, Kavadarci – 38, Veles – 32, Strumica – 25, Tetovo – 24, Ohrid and Kichevo – 23 each, Shtip – 21, Struga, Gevgelija and Negotino – each 14, Resen and Radovish – 8 each, Gostivar and Kriva Palanka – 7 each, Demir Hisar – 5, Kochani, Sveti Nikole and Valandovo – 4 each, Debar and Makedonski Brod – 3 each, Probishtip and Krushevo – 2 each, Delchevo, Berovo , Vinica and Kratovo – one new case in each town. Officially, 477 people recovered from their acute COVID-19 infection. Four people died from SARS-CoV-2: two people from Prilep (aged 80 and 89), a 68-year-old from Skopje, and a 83-year-old from Veles. They died in hospital. Since the start of the pandemic, 9,353 people have died in North Macedonia from the airborne virus. The country's laboratories have performed a total of 2,105,622 coronavirus tests, officially logging 322,165 infections and declaring 308,676 recoveries. mr/
