Skopje, 20 February 2024 (MIA) — Henrik Ibsen's "Nora: A Doll's House" directed by Teodora Siljanoska will be performed at Belgrade's Bitef Theater stage as part of the annual Bitef "Independent Stage Month" selection.

According to organizers, the play is the first one produced by Serbia's INTEF International Theatre Festival and includes several festival award winners from both Serbia and North Macedonia.

"The project was aimed at gathering young regional artists as a first step toward future cooperation and cultural exchange," organizers say.

"Nora: A Doll's House" is about individuality, its price and its beauty and sadness, organizers note, adding that other themes in the drama are lovelessness and guilt.

"Guilt can disturb the peace of any person, and if peace is the great happiness of life, then these characters are unhappy. They carry their sins on their backs, in their pockets and suitcases," organizers say.

Illustrating the search for personal freedom, empathy and understanding of others through complicated human relationships, the play also touches on women's issues and their place in society.

The cast consists of Macedonian actors Marija Kondovska and Ane Blazhovski as well as Serbian actors Olivera Guconić, Dušan Simić, Tanasije Cakić, Vanja Pavlović, and Ivana Jokić.

The play was directed and scored by Teodora Siljanoska. The costumes were designed by Vanja Vujanović, and the set was designed by Natalija Matrakoska and Filip Rajković. mr/
