No new restrictions as Infectious Diseases Commission urges citizens to observe current COVID-19 precautions
Skopje, 5 August 2022 (MIA) – The Commission for Infectious Diseases discussed on Friday the current pandemic wave in the country, recommending no further COVID-19 restrictions and urging citizens to put emphasis on personal responsibility and to observe the precautions in place, i.e. the mask mandate in health institutions, pharmacies, public transport and retirement homes.   “The past week saw a slight increase in the number of new cases by 8.5 percent, which is a significantly lower increase compared to the previous week – 55.7 percent, and is in line with the decrease in the reproduction number (Ro). The Republic of North Macedonia is in a community-wide transmission stage, with adequate response capacities,” the Infectious Diseases Commission said in a press release.   The commission points out it is of particular importance that people who show symptoms or suspect they are COVID-19 positive act responsibly and protect people around them by avoiding close contact, and avoid staying indoors without wearing a mask.   “It remains a strong recommendation for all citizens, and particularly those at risk of a more severe course of the disease, to take all basic epidemiological precautions, including frequent and thorough hand washing and hand sanitizing, avoiding crowds and avoid staying in indoor spaces and poorly-ventilated rooms, wearing protective masks, and follow recommendations for vaccination against COVID-19,” the commission urged.
