Skopje, 29 March 2024 (MIA) – No evidence has been collected which provides a founded suspicion that the people put in 48-hour house arrest are responsible for the murder of a doctor in the Skopje suburb of Zhelezara, the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office – Skopje said in a press release Friday.

The Prosecutor’s Office said it is working with the Interior Ministry in order to identify the perpetrators.

“As of this moment, with the actions taken by the Interior Ministry and the investigations of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, no evidence has been secured which provides a founded suspicion that the people arrested are the perpetrators of the crime. Consequently, after the expiration of the 48-hour house arrest, the public prosecutor won’t propose new precautionary measures for the three people detained for the murder,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

On Thursday, a public prosecutor ordered that two of the three detained people be put in a 48-hour house arrest.

Earlier on Thursday, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski announced that a total of three people have been detained in connection with the murder.

“The search was carried out late in the evening, and other activities in the investigation are continuing in order to identify what happened, once we have additional information we will inform the public,” Toshkovski said.

A sixty-seven-year old doctor was found dead with multiple stab wounds in his vehicle last week. According to initial information, the motive for the murder is not related to the victim’s profession.
