No connection between detained man and school bomb threats: PPO
Skopje, 3 November 2022 (MIA) – The man who was detained yesterday on suspicion of being connected to the bomb threats received by several Skopje schools was freed Thursday following an official questioning and home search, with the expertise showing he had no connection with the bomb threats, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) told MIA. After the person was detained by the police, a public prosecutor filed a request to a pre-trial judge for a search warrant and the confiscation of electronic devices from which the threats could have been sent. In line with the prosecutor’s instructions, all necessary actions were carried out in order to avoid further detaining the person. Since initial reports showed no connection between the person and the sent threats, the person was immediately released after the official interrogation, the PPO said in a press release. Earlier today, the Ministry of Interior told MIA that the person arrested on Wednesday was questioned and his home was searched. “An official questioning was conducted with the person, and his home was searched in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, items were seized for examination and measures are being taken to clear up the case,” the Ministry of Interior told MIA. The platform named Conservative.mk said Wednesday in a social media post that the person detained for an alleged connection to the bomb threats is their member and activist Nikola Nikolovski, who they claim was unjustly arrested. “We responsibly claim and deny that our member Nikola has any ties to these events. Nikola is, above all, a socially responsible citizen, a Conservative.mk activist who is actively involved in the fight against disinformation and fake news, who has proudly represented Macedonia at numerous events, competitions and conferences, including in the European Parliament,” Conservative.mk wrote in the post. According to the platform, this is a classic attack on the freedom of speech, democracy and a way to suppress those who think differently, which is why they will make sure that the issue is fully cleared up before the authorities, and that the real people behind the, according to them, planned attack must be held responsible. The main goal of Conservative.mk, according to their web page, is to unite the citizens who believe in the fundamental values of increasing and improving the quality of democracy, a healthy environment, free market, classical liberalism, conservatism and other similar commitments and ideologies. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior received reports of bomb threats by nine Skopje schools, which following police checks were determined to be false. Nine schools received bomb threats last week as well, which were also confirmed to be false by the Ministry. ad/ik/
