Nikolovski-Jourova: EC recognizes Government’s commitment in fight against corruption
Brussels, 17 November 2021 (MIA) – Measures of the Government’s Plan to fight corruption related to transparency and accountability of institutions as one of the key mechanisms in combating corruption were in the focus of a meeting of Deputy PM for the fight against corruption and crime, sustainable development and human resources, Ljupcho Nikolovski with European Commission Vice-President and Commissioner for Values and Transparency, Vera Jourova in Brussels on Wednesday. “North Macedonia has continually invested enormous efforts in the Europeanization of institutions. The Plan is here to implement European standards and values, we bring Europe at home,” Deputy PM Nikolovski told EC Vice-President Jourova. Nikolovski presented the Plan’s measures that are currently realized, such as the setup of internal public procurement procedures by institutions, development of annual anti-corruption programmes, implementation of GRECO recommendations, new code of ethics for Government members and public office holders, decisions for restrictions on official costs for entertainment and use of official vehicles, and other measures within the Plan, the Government says in a press release. It adds that the Deputy PM highlighted the Government’s continued efforts on proactive transparency and accountability, which represent the foundation of the fight against corruption. Vice-President Jourova supported the Plan’s implementation and said the EC is ready to share experiences of EU member-states with regards to transparency and rule of law, reads the press release.
