Kochani, 10 April 2024 (MIA) - The export of Macedonian rice is becoming an important factor in achieving foreign currency inflow, and from last year's harvest sales on foreign markets, a record amount has been achieved so far, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Economy, Ljupcho Nikolovski, said during his visit to the rice fields in the municipality of Cheshinovo-Obleshevo on Wednesday.

“With the new subsidy model, rice has become a strategic agricultural crop, eligible for one hundred percent financial support from the state. The additional subsidies for rice were paid out promptly, with a disbursement totaling over €4.5 million to 9,055 farmers completed last week. We are seeing a favorable price for rice paddies, reaching up to Mden 40 per kilogram. However, what's truly gratifying is the record-breaking export achieved this year, totaling around €7 million, possibly double the amount from just a few years ago. This means that the quality of Macedonian rice is valued, but it's also essential to appreciate the hard work of the producers,” Nikolovski said.

Agriculture Minister, accompanied by Agency for Financial Support of the Agriculture and Rural Development director Nikica Bachovski, visited the rice purchasing, processing, and marketing company 'Eko Zrno' in the village of Spanchevo. During the visit, they noted that support will continue not only for farmers but also for legal entities in acquiring necessary equipment and mechanization.

“The direct financial support through rice subsidies for producers has increased by 300% in the past six years. Assistance has been provided for the procurement of rice harvesting combines. Beginning this year, rice producers, along with all other farmers, including tobacco producers for the first time, will receive full support for 'green diesel' for their machinery through the Payment Agency, amounting to an additional budget of €10 million,” Nikolovski added.
