Nikoloski: Reconstruction of Corridor X and Skopje bypass among Government’s priorities

Nikoloski: Reconstruction of Corridor X and Skopje bypass among Government’s priorities

Skopje, 18 August 2025 (MIA) - The “Makedonija Pat” public enterprise has inherited millions in debt and urgently needs consolidation to ensure better road maintenance. Immediately after the elections, we plan its complete reconstruction, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski in an interview with Kanal 5 TV on Monday.

"The enterprise is in very poor condition, with inherited debts from the past amounting to around EUR 27–28 million. With such a burden, it cannot perform its duties, so a full reconstruction of Makedonija Pat is a priority. I hope that next summer we’ll be able to talk about much better road maintenance," Nikoloski said in the interview.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that all road routes are a priority for maintenance, including those leading to smaller settlements. Regarding reconstruction, the focus is on Corridor X and the Skopje bypass, he said.

"The section from Demir Kapija through Negotino, Veles, Skopje, Kumanovo, and the border with Serbia is already ripe for reconstruction, and a project is underway there. Some interventions have been made on the Skopje bypass, but a complete reconstruction is also needed," Nikoloski added.

He stressed that by the end of this government's term, Macedonia will be a regional leader in infrastructure, highlighting all the infrastructure projects currently underway across the country.

"Two Pan-European corridors intersect in Macedonia. Corridors VIII and X will be fully covered with motorways or expressways, and we’ll be in an advanced phase of building a high-speed railway on Corridor X and reconstructing and building Corridor VIII, something no other country in the region has. Not to mention the airports, both of which are growing quarter by quarter. So when you look at that perspective, I believe that by 2028, we will be the absolute leader in the region," Nikoloski stressed.
