Nikoloski: Launching Geneva and Paris routes, working on transatlantic flights

Skopje, 22 January 2025 (MIA) - At the request of the diaspora, we are launching regular flights between Geneva and Skopje this year. Another significant route being added is Paris (Orly Airport) to Skopje. I am also working on launching transatlantic flights, with a focus on the North America, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikolovski said late Wednesday.

As announced by the Ministry of Transport, Nikolovski told Alfa TV that with the change in the subsidy policy, weaknesses were identified, and as he stated, we decided to implement a new policy that is already showing results, as in six months, we are introducing nine new destinations.

Nikolovski said that new flights from Skopje to Barcelona, Lyon, Dubai, Stuttgart, and Amsterdam have been launched, as well as from Ohrid to Basel and Istanbul, emphasizing that the Geneva - Skopje flight is the most important for Ohrid Airport.

He also pointed out that the Geneva - Skopje flight has been a tremendous success.

“The Macedonian diaspora is large in Switzerland and France, and this will be very significant for them, as they had to use the Pristina airport for their travel or rely on connecting flights until now. The second flight operates from Paris to Skopje, from Orly Airport, which is only about fifteen kilometers from the popular Champs-Élysées. This will likely attract many tourists from France to Macedonia, taking advantage of this benefit. Moreover, I expect other routes to be introduced in the coming period,” Nikolovski said.

He also revealed that he is working on introducing transatlantic flights.

“Such a flight will be very important for Skopje and Macedonia, contributing to the development of tourism, business, and improving Macedonia’s image by placing it on the map of intercontinental flights. We are targeting North America,” Nikolovski added.
