Skopje, 27 November 2025 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski told a TV Kanal 5 interview Thursday the party maintains its position that it won't accept constitutional amendments “under Bulgarian dictate,” stressing that Bulgaria is not implementing the judgments from the European Court of Human Rights and that the country expects them to be implemented, with the Macedonian minority recognized.
“We have said before that we don’t accept constitutional amendments under Bulgarian dictate, and we have clearly said what our expectations are regardless of whether they are related to the historical or political continuity of the Macedonian people, the uniqueness of the Macedonian language. We have very clearly said that Bulgaria is not implementing the judgments of the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg, that we want them to be implemented, we have clearly said that we ask that they recognize the Macedonian minority which should be a part of the Council of National Minorities that exists in Bulgaria. Our positions are clear,” Nikoloski said.
Nikoloski said a new wave of optimism over enlargement exists in the European Union, with several larger member states ready to back the process.
“Now that there is a new wave of optimism regarding enlargement, I hope that several larger and more powerful EU states will agree on enlargement, and if they do, they will exert pressure on Bulgaria not to block us,” Nikoloski said.
