Nikoloski: Coordinators to monitor implementation of UK deal, FinMin to obtain financing for high speed rail

Skopje, 11 June 2025 (MIA) -- The government at its latest Tuesday session formed a coordination body on monitoring the implementation of the partnership deal signed with the United Kingdom to access British expertise and funding for local projects, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski in a press release.

 

In addition to Deputy PM Nikoloski, the deal implementation will be coordinated by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski; Minister of Energy, Mining and Minerals Sanja Bozhinovska; Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski; and Minister of Health Azir Aliu.

 

Other members of the coordination body include Macedonian Railways Infrastructure director Sinisha Ivanovski, the government's General Secretary Igor Janushev and State Attorney Bekim Emini. Others may be invited to join in on an as-needed basis, the release said.

 

The government also approved the Transport Ministry's proposal to task the Finance Ministry to transparently obtain financing from foreign sources for the five-year construction project of a high speed rail on Corridor X, from the border with Greece to the border with Serbia, the release added.

 

Rail construction is expected to begin this fall, Nikoloski is cited as saying in the release. mr/
