Skopje, 18 July 2025 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski highlighted the Government’s firm commitment to the development of infrastructure, with a special emphasis on European corridors VIII and X, at a meeting Friday with the Deputy Head of the European Union’s Delegation in the country, Ben Nupnau, the Ministry of Transport said in a press release.

“The need for an economic strengthening of Macedonia and integration within the region is possible solely through the construction and modernization of the road and railway network,” Deputy PM Nikoloski stressed, highlighting the need for firm support from European partners in the process.

According to the Ministry, at the meeting Nikoloski stressed that the country is moving towards an infrastructural integration within the region, noting that the Government has launched intensive processes for the construction and modernization of the main European routes in the country. He highlighted the Corridor VIII road and rail projects, and especially the project for the construction of a high-speed rail as part of Corridor X.

Regarding the rail connection with Bulgaria, Deputy PM Nikoloski stressed the Government’s commitment to complete the railway and jointly realize the project with Bulgaria, especially after the EU-mediated meeting in Brussels.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of boosting capacities and the need to make use of IPA funds.

“The integration of Macedonia and cooperation with the EU is a strategic policy of the Government,” said Deputy PM Nikolovski, stressing that the Government will continue to work on reforms, the fight against corruption, and the rule of law.
