Skopje, 1 September 2024 (MIA) – Monday marks the start of the 2024/2025 school year for all students in elementary and high schools. According to Education Ministry’s data, the new school year will start for 245,000 elementary and high school students, down by 17,000 in the past seven years.

“The number of first graders also dropped by nearly 3,500 compared to the past seven years. This is devastating and the result of poor policies, not only in education, but also in all other social segments,” Education Minister Vesna Janevska told a news conference Sunday.

She announced that the existing policies will be replaced with new, progressive ones, which will be created by all involved sides. In order the policies to be implemented, Janevska added, a wider consensus will be secured.
