New record as France reports highest ever number of new Covid cases
Paris, 26 December 2021 (dpa/MIA) - France recorded its largest daily number of new coronavirus cases ever on Saturday, with the authorities announcing that 104,611 new cases had been reported in the past 24 hours. The seven-day incidence nationwide was last at just under 647 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. In view of the drastically rising numbers, the French government has indicated its intention to tighten access rules for certain venues, including restaurants and cultural institutions. Currently, you need to prove you are vaccinated, have recently recovered from the coronavirus or show a negative test result to enter most venues. Soon a negative test alone will no longer be sufficient. The government plans to introduce a law in a special session on Monday, which is due to be passed in mid-January.
