New 578.26 MW renewable energy capacities connected in 25 months

Skopje, 24 February 2024 (MIA) - New 578.26 MW energy capacities from renewable sources have been connected in 25 months, which produce electricity sufficient for the average consumption of nearly 185,000 households, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said on Saturday.

According to the ERC, licenses were issued in January for the production of electricity from renewable sources with an installed capacity of 27.06 MW.

ERC president Marko Bislimoski said these figures confirm that the private initiative and the capital invested in this sector is proving to be highly effective.

"In twenty-five months we practically have the new ecological REK Bitola when it comes to installed power, only now it is not electricity from coal, but electricity predominantly from the sun, as well as wind, water and biomass," said Bislimoski.

Last year, licenses were issued for the production of electricity from renewable sources with a total installed capacity of almost 399 MW, which is a growth of over 160 percent of the installed capacity compared to 2022, which saw 152.2 MW.
