Washington, 8 July 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising him for promoting peace efforts in multiple regions.

Netanyahu made the announcement at the start of a joint dinner at the White House, where he handed Trump a copy of the letter he sent to the Nobel Committee.

"It's nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved, and you should get it," Netanyahu said in front of cameras. He described Trump as a leader "forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other."

Trump responded: "Wow. Thank you very much. Coming from you in particular this is very meaningful."

The United States is Israel's most important ally.
