Berlin, 26 August 2025 (dpa/MIA) - NATO scrambled two German Eurofighters due to the unannounced approach of a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea, officials said on Tuesday.
The jets took off from Rostock-Laage military airfield to identify the Russian Ilyushin Il-20M aircraft.
It was flying without a signal and without notification and remained in international airspace, a German Air Force spokesman said.
This was the 10th such alert launch over the Baltic Sea this year.
The situation in the area has become increasingly tense following recent espionage incidents and suspected acts of sabotage.
