National emblem reflects all area features, nothing done in EU integration process, says SDSM leader

Skopje, 13 February 2025 (MIA) - We think that the national emblem properly reflects all features of this area. The continuity and benefits of the World War II resistance are clear, there is no division along ethnic lines. Therefore, if such an initiative emerges, we will oppose any change of the national emblem using all democratic means at disposal, said SDSM leader Venko Filipche on Thursday.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski confirmed that VMRO-DPMNE and Worth It have opened discussions over a change of the national emblem, noting, "We are one of only two post-socialist countries that still have the old national emblem, with some minor modifications".

"This is a reoccurring proposal, similar to that of a past government of VMRO-DPMNE and DUI. The first dilemma here is that maybe, by putting out this proposal for a change of the national emblem, is the coalition with Worth It also mulling a change of the national anthem? VMRO-DPMNE should answer this question," Filipche told a press conference.

Filipche also said the Government is doing absolutely nothing in the EU integration process.

"The FM is visiting Australia, which has nothing to do with the most important topic - our European future. I don't know what the plan is, I hope there is one that the Government is working on, even if it is done behind the scene," said Filipche.

The SDSM leader noted they would support any solution that is better than the one they had negotiated.

"I believe this should happen as soon as possible, because time is passing us by, neighboring countries Albania and Montenegro are moving forward and we are standing still," said Filipche.
