National Bank prepares statistical data in line with the International Monetary Fund's SDDS Plus

Skopje, 18 April 2023 (MIA) - Through the quality performance of its statistical function, the National Bank contributes to the strengthening of the decision-making process of the economic stakeholders. The National Bank constantly collects, prepares and publishes data in accordance with the international standards, along with the activities for development and upgrading in the individual statistical domains.

The National Bank comes within an ace of the complete fulfillment of the indicators that are within its competence, and result from the highest statistical data dissemination standard of the International Monetary Fund's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) Plus, which is met only by 30 countries in the world. This was discussed at the meeting between the Director of the IMF Department of Statistics, Albert Kruse and the Governor Anita Angelovska Bezhoska and the Vice Governor Fadil Bajrami, held within 2023 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

“As part of the process of alignment with international statistical standards, including the SDDS Plus standard, last year the National Bank started publishing a new set of statistical data on the debt securities. In addition to this, the central bank continues to work on the development of the last SDDS plus indicator under its jurisdiction, the quarterly financial accounts. For that purpose, the National Bank envisages, in addition to publishing annual statements, to start publishing quarterly data on financial accounts, which will enable availability of more frequent information for policymakers and for understanding the developments in the individual sectors, which may be an indicator of possible economic vulnerabilities. It is expected that the first data on quarterly financial accounts will be published by the end of this year,” the National Bank said in a press release.

At the meeting, it was underlined that the National Bank constantly applies practices for strengthening of the transparency with respect to statistical data. The National Bank regularly communicates with the reporters and with the users of statistical data. The IMF will continue to support the National Bank in the sphere of statistics, reads the press release.
