Skopje, 2 July 2024 (MIA) - National Bank Governor Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska attended a meeting of women and deputy governors as part of the Annual General Meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), where she met with the Norwegian Central Bank Governor and Deputy Governors of Canada, Finland, and Turkey.
Governor Angelovska-Bezhoska and Vice-Governor Ana Mitreska also spoke with the Italian Central Bank Governor about the integration process into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), as well as the possibility of joining the TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) system of the European Central Bank, which can provide numerous benefits in the payment sphere for our citizens and companies, the National Bank said in a press release.
The annual meeting reviewed and adopted the latest BIS annual report and annual economic report.
The report notes that the policies of central banks mitigated the consequences of the crisis and ensured the preservation of economic stability. The need to maintain price stability is a short-term priority, including caution in easing monetary policies. Long-term, we need policies that will ensure financial and macroeconomic stability and strengthen fiscal positions. Within the frameworks of structural reforms for strengthening economic potential, the importance of innovations in the digital sphere of the financial system was also highlighted.
There was also a panel discussion for reviewing current topics and challenges the central banking community faces.
The conference discussed geopolitical developments and their reflection on macroeconomics, as well as their impact on inflation pressures and monetary policies. The opportunities and risks of digital transformation and use of artificial intelligence in the work of central banks, as well as the importance of investments in green finance, were also considered, reads the press release.
The meetings within the frameworks of the Annual General Meeting are of great importance for addressing ongoing challenges, but also in preparing for future trends in the monetary sphere, considering BIS' role as a bank of central banks, and the role of international cooperation in supporting monetary and financial stability. Governor Angelovska Bezhoska and Vice-Governor Mitreska held numerous bilateral meetings with several of their colleagues from the BIS member central banks. ssh/ik/
