N. Macedonia to be depositary of international agreements signed at Berlin Process Summit
Skopje, 16 November 2022 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani received the three agreements signed by the six Western Balkan countries at the Berlin Process Summit on November 3, for which North Macedonia was selected as depositary. The original documents were handed to the foreign minister on Wednesday by Susanne Schütz, Director for South-East Europe, Turkey, OSCE and the Council of Europe in the German Federal Foreign Office. “The role of depositary of the agreements, in line with the practice of appointing one country as ‘custodian’ of agreements signed by multiple countries, represents a confirmation of North Macedonia’s constructive role in the regional processes and cooperation, as well as of the country’s commitment to strengthening good neighborly relations and being a model for finding positive solutions for the overcoming of open issues,” emphasized Osmani. The MFA said that the agreements concern the mutual recognition of university diplomas in the Western Balkans, recognition of professional qualifications and freedom of movement with ID cards in the Western Balkans. “They have the goal of strengthening the cooperation between the countries in the areas of reform processes and common markets, while at the same time contributing to a rapid regional economic growth and development,” said the MFA. The Ministry emphasized that the Berlin Process, as a complementary process to the EU integration of the Western Balkan countries, aims to establish a framework for the improvement of relations between the countries, open market economy, acceleration of the reform progress in the interest of a faster EU integration, promoting cooperation, promoting the culture of finding compromises that aim to make an authentic contribution to the Europeanization of the countries of the region. “The concrete implementation of the Common Regional Market begins with these three agreements,” said the Ministry. ad/ba/
