Murtezani: Constitutional changes will take place when we are sure we will not have a potential veto from Bulgaria
- Serious work is under way to overcome the problem with our European integration, and constitutional amendments will take place when we are sure that we will not have a potential veto from Bulgaria and when we find a solution that will guarantee the completion of this process, Minister of European Affairs and Chief EU Negotiator, Orhan Murtezani, said on Thursday.
Skopje, 26 December 2024 (MIA) – Serious work is under way to overcome the problem with our European integration, and constitutional amendments will take place when we are sure that we will not have a potential veto from Bulgaria and when we find a solution that will guarantee the completion of this process, Minister of European Affairs and Chief EU Negotiator, Orhan Murtezani, said on Thursday.
"I have also stated in Macedonian that I have never said we will leave the Government if no constitutional changes take place by the end of the year. When we formed the Government, we didn't do it with one foot in and one foot out, and not by blackmailing to leave the Government," Murtezani said responding to a question at Thursday's Q&A session in Parliament.
He said the position that the new Government has blocked the path to the European Union was not reasonable.
"It's as if you have opened all the chapters, and now we are the ones sabotaging the process, which is not true. The only difference is in the approach that we have from what has been done so far. We do not use PR like you, instead we say is that we will try to find a solution," said Murtezani.
He added that all European and U.S. representatives who have visited the country have confirmed that the new Government is working on finding a solution.
"The Government's work is not only declarative, it is seriously working to overcome the problem. It is not important how many months it will take. When we are sure that we will not have a potential veto from Bulgaria, the constitutional amendments will be in the Parliament and will just be a technical issue of ensuring 80 MPs," Murtezani said.
