Murtezani: ‘Unserious’ to call for early elections when there is a stable Gov’t

Skopje, 4 November 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani said Monday evening he sees no reason for early general elections to be held alongside the upcoming local elections at a time when the country has a stable Government. Murtezani assessed the calls as “unserious statements by DUI for their daily politics”.

“We see no reasons for elections, considering the Government almost has a two-third majority [in Parliament]. The Government hasn’t experienced a single crisis that would cause the upcoming local elections to be held alongside general elections,” Murtezani told Telma TV on Monday.

Regarding the European Commission’s Progress Report for the country, Murtezani said it generally mirrors the situation from 2023, “with small corrections in terms of agricultural policies, fishery, and certain improvements in Cluster 1”.

“The report doesn’t assess the work of the Government, it assesses the work of the state institutions, and the system in general. That’s why we should see what we’ve inherited, what we need to improve and where we should be,” Murtezani said.

The Minister also said an online platform is being created that would make it possible to monitor the implementation of the reforms from the reform agenda on a daily basis.
