Mucunski, Kos confirm strong backing for country's EU integration

Skopje, 26 August 2025 (MIA) -- Minister of Foreign Afairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski on a two-day working visit to Brussels met Tuesday with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

According to an official press release, Mucunski and Kos confirmed the strong public backing for EU enlargement both in all EU member states and in North Macedonia, as shown in a recent Eurobarometer survey.

The EU Commissioner welcomed the government's approach to the country's reform agenda, especially the fulfilment of specific obligations and the implementation of the Growth Plan.

The foreign minister said the EU-related reforms remained high on the domestic political agenda, with a particular focus on the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

Mucunski also thanked Kos for her personal contribution to the country's accession process, especially for her participation and support in the Growth Plan summit recently held in Skopje.

Meeting participants exchanged opinions on the country's recent joining the Single Euro Payments Area as well as the initiative for eliminating data roaming costs for travelers between the EU and the Western Balkans. The decision on the initiative is expected in early 2026 and is one of the benefits of the country's gradual integration into the bloc, the release said.

They also discussed the latest regional and global developments, confirming the mutual support of Ukraine and the commitment to achieving sustainable peace as soon as possible. mr/
