Mucunski – O'Brien: Enhancing strategic partnership and strengthening alliance within NATO

Skopje, 26 September 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski met with the United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The discussion at the meeting focused on the enhancement of the strategic partnership between North Macedonia and the United States of America, with a special emphasis on key areas such as regional security, economic development, good governance and democracy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said.
Minister Mucunski highlighted the country’s commitment to accelerated progress in the Euro-integration processes and noted the importance of continued US support for the country’s aspirations.
“The United States are our significant strategic partner and a NATO ally that has continuously aided our democratic development and overall progress. Amidst a changed geopolitical context, we are working together and with commitment to maintain regional stability and security. In that context, it is especially important for the country to become a member of the European Union as soon as possible, something for which we have the unreserved support of the U.S.,” Mucunski said.
At the meeting, Mucunski and O’Brien reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, as well as the joint commitments to strengthen the alliance within NATO, which will contribute to further promotion of the overall trans-Atlantic stability, the Ministry said.
