MPs to debate no confidence motion against Kocevski, to verify Dimitrovska's resignation

Skopje, 29 July 2025 (MIA) – Parliament at its session on Tuesday is expected to verify the resignation of the head of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (DKSK), Tatjana Dimitrovska, and to debate on a no confidence motion against Ljupcho Kocevski, the Chief State Public Prosecutor, filed by the opposition Levica MPs. Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi is expected to lead the session after being discharged from hospital last week.

Levica MPs will vote in favor of the no confidence motion and SDSM MPs will vote against. Also, ZNAM leader Maksim Dimitrievski said that ZNAM MPs will back the motion. VMRO-DPMNE is yet to announce how its lawmakers will vote as DUI is expected to announce it today.

Asked how VMRO-DPMNE MPs will vote on Kocevski’s no confidence motion, PM Hristijan Mickoski said he doesn’t change his positions overnight nor his party does.

“The public will see tomorrow,” Mickoski told reporters yesterday.

In the no confidence motion sent to Speaker Gashi, Levica said Kocevski had disrespected the constitutional and legal duties.

The no confidence motion was initiated by Levica, as it said, due to selective criminal investigations in the wake of the Kochani deadly fire, logistics interference into the work of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, functioning chaos in the in the Skopje Higher Public Prosecutor's Office and failure to act in accordance with official duty regarding the illegal constructions of the urban mafia in Skopje.

“Since the beginning of Kocevski’s term, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is engulfed in a toxic environment, all the while external political influences over his work have been also detected, for which Kocevski is to be held accountable,” said the motion.

In a written response to the no confidence motion this past Friday, State Public Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski said he has been working honourably and responsibly at the helm of the institution abiding by the principles of transparency and accountability. “The no confidence motion isn’t legally allowed and the institution has been subjected to groundless attacks, which have caused the public trust to drop significantly,” said the response.
