MPs go back to work on Monday

Skopje, 24 August 2025 (MIA) – Parliament goes back to work on Monday as summer recess ends. Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi tomorrow with meet with the press to inform about the ongoing activities of the legislative house after a regular meeting with parliamentary group coordinators.

The MPs’ recess was cut short on August 16 after an emergency session was scheduled for the bill on amending the Electoral Code in a fast-tracked procedure, which didn’t pass because no Badinter majority was secured. Also on August 13, the Commission on Election and Appointment Issues held a session to set up a commission tasked with selecting candidates for head of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption.

The summer recess usually starts after the national holiday Ilinden (August 2).

On August 9, Speaker Gashi scheduled the 2025 local elections on October 19. It is expected Parliament to hold plenary sessions until the election campaign kicks off on September 29.

Speaking to reporters at the latest press briefing, the Speaker noted that the legislative house is in session constantly and if necessary, MPs will be told to come back for sessions.
