Moraochanin: Criminal Code amendments not in favor of efficient fight against corruption and organized crime

Skopje, 7 September 2023 (MIA) – I voted against the Criminal Code amendments because I believe that the amendments adopted yesterday do not go in favor of an efficient fight against corruption and organized crime, said DOM (Democratic Renewal of Macedonia) MP Maja Morachanin in a media statement Thursday.

Morachanin said that the rule of law is important for her and for DOM as a party.

“This is one of our pillars, besides the protection of the environment, human rights etc., and I think this is very important for Macedonian society in general, as well as for the Euro-integration processes, because you know – the rule of law, the fight against corruption are a part of the first cluster,” said Morachanin.

Asked why the amendments were adopted so fast, Morachanin said she had remarks over the fact they were adopted with an EU flag and under fast-track procedure, noting that such amendments call for a broad public debate, with the inclusion of experts.

Morachanin reminded that the fight against corruption is DOM’s condition to remain in the ruling coalition, and noted that this will be discussed by the party’s bodies.
