MoH: COVID-19 mortality higher among unvaccinated
Skopje, 31 December 2021 (MIA) – In the period Aug. 6 – Dec. 30., 33% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 in North Macedonia were fully vaccinated, shows the Ministry of Health’s analysis released on Friday.
According to the statistics for the past two weeks, 46,246 citizens, i.e. 67% of new COVID-19 infections were unvaccinated.
Mortality, the analysis adds, is also higher among the unvaccinated.
In the period Aug. 6 – Dec. 30., a total of 2,447 people died of COVID-19. Of them, 1,913 patients were unvaccinated and only 22% were fully jabbed. According to the analysis, the people who died from COVID-19 had several medical conditions. The patients had received all types of vaccines available in the country, as well as those available abroad, the Ministry says.
Moreover, it underlines the importance of vaccination, noting that all vaccines it has provided are safe.
“We urge the citizens to get vaccinated, it is the only way to create herd immunity and stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2 mutations,” says the Ministry of Health.
