MoD provides no concrete answer as to whether jets have been donated to Ukraine
Skopje, 4 August 2022 (MIA) - The Defense Ministry is yet to confirm whether North Macedonia has sent to Ukraine four SU-25 jets. "The exact details involving all three decisions, their content and explanation will be declassified and published transparently. The decisions made so far will not harm the combat readiness of our army," the Ministry told MIA. According to several media reports, four SU-25 jets procured from Ukraine during the 2001 war conflict have been recently donated to Kiev. In late July, North Macedonia donated to Ukraine T-72 tanks. Reacting to the move, Russia said that the donation is a big mistake. Although the equipment is outdated, the donation provides support “for continuation of the criminal activities of the Kiev regime," said Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Maria Zakharova. On Wednesday, the ministries of foreign affairs and defense issued a joint statement following Zakharova's remarks. "The Republic of North Macedonia is a sovereign state that makes decisions independently, guided by the principles of respect for international law, the UN Charter, the OSCE principles and commitments in the protection of the European security architecture and global stability... The Republic of North Macedonia, the statement adds, as a member of the most powerful military-political alliance – the NATO Alliance, stands firmly behind the position and determination of the Alliance to be a guarantor of the peace and security of its member countries and protect the values, freedom and security of current and future generations," said the statement.
