MOC-OA: SOC document a recommendation for autocephaly, hope for sooner issuance of Tomos by Ecumenical Patriarch
Skopje, 6 June 2022 (MIA) – Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC-OA) expressed Monday its gratitude to the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) for the completion of the reconciliation process through yesterday’s issuance of an official document that represents a recommendation for the church’s autocephaly. “The Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric extends its gratitude to the merciful Lord and the sisterly Serbian Orthodox Church for its love of reconciliation and timely and speedy settlement of bilateral relations and administrative aspects, which arose as a guideline from the Great Church of Christ in Constantinople and the act of bringing the Ohrid Archbishopric back in canonical unity. This process was completed yesterday in Belgrade, through the issuance of an official document, as a recommendation that represents our church as worthy of autocephaly,” reads the MOC-OA press release. It adds that the Ecumenical Patriarchate will be informed over SOC’s decision during MOC-OA’s visit to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for Pentecost. “We eagerly expect this visit to make our acceptance into canonical unity official. We hope that our church issue will be finalized in the near future through the issuance of a Tomos by His Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in line with his legal and historic jurisdiction,” reads the press release.
