Mitsotakis: If you pull the rope, be ready for it to break

Athens, 25 May 2024 (MIA) — North Macedonia's road to Europe passes through Greece and may remain closed if the name deal is not honored, according to Greece's Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in an interview with Greek newspaper Ta Nea, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.

"If one pulls the rope, one should be ready for it to break. And if one deviates from the agreed course, one should know that the road to Europe will be closed. This road passes through Greece and [depends] on honoring international law," Mitsotakis said.

The Greek prime minister gave Ta Nea's reporter a more personal interview while they were travelling together to the town of Argos, where Mitsotakis held a campaign rally on Thursday.

Mitsotakis also spoke about preparations for a rally and what went on behind the cameras and commented on current topics in Greece as well as relations with neighbors.

Ta Nea featured the interview on its front page under the headline "If you pull the rope, be ready for it to break," which was the message the Greek PM sent to North Macedonia. mr/
