Mitsotakis – Kovachevski: Working on energy independence, diversification of energy supply sources
Athens, 13 September 2022 (MIA) – North Macedonia’s European perspective, possibilities for cooperation, the global energy crisis and deepening of cooperation in terms of energy projects, are in the focus of talks that began on Tuesday in Athens between the Prime Ministers of North Macedonia and Greece, Dimitar Kovachevski and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.   Mitsotakis stressed that there are many items on the agenda of today’s talks and reiterated Greek support for the country's path to the EU, as well as regarding the energy crisis, adding that it is in the interest of both countries to promote investments.   PM Kovachevski extended gratitude for Greece’s support in terms of the start of North Macedonia's negotiations with the European Union, pointing out that the two neighboring countries are an example of good relations not only for the region, but the world.   The two prime ministers agreed that regional cooperation is of great importance, particularly underlining the importance of cooperation in the energy sector, and noting its great potential, given the joint projects for the construction of the LNG Terminal in Alexandroupolis, as well as the gas connection between the two countries, the Government said in a press release.   Kovachevski and Mitsotakis reaffirmed commitments to have gas supply from Greece no later than mid-2024, concluding that strategic projects are of great importance for long-term energy independence for a stable and constant supply of liquid gas in times of crisis.
