Mitreski – Šljivančanin: North Macedonia, Montenegro have friendly ties, should promote cooperation

Skopje, 13 March 2024 (MIA) — Caretaker Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski met Wednesday with Acting Ambassador/Chargé d'affaires of Montenegro Velimir Šljivančanin to discuss promoting bilateral parliamentary cooperation as well as cooperation between the two countries in general.
According to Parliament in a press release, Parliament Speaker Mitreski said Montenegro was a friendly country North Macedonia nurtured excellent relations with.
He pointed out that both countries were NATO members and both countries were negotiating to join the European Union, which he said were excellent prerequisites for mutual cooperation toward common progress.
Acting Ambassador Šljivančanin congratulated Mitreski on his new post and wished him success in his work. He also informed him that Montenegro would soon appoint a new ambassador to North Macedonia. He said Montenegro's Parliament was also forming a group for cooperation with North Macedonia's Parliament.
"Acting Ambassador Šljivančanin welcomed Republic of North Macedonia's committment to following the path of European integration," the release says.
He also said it was of great importance for Montenegro that the proposed constitutional changes would also include members of the Montenegrin community living in North Macedonia.
At the meeting, Mitreski and Šljivančanin discussed the need to boost the economic cooperation and trade between the two countries. mr/
