Minister Spasovski meets OSCE Secretary General Schmid
Skopje, 22 October 2021 (MIA) – Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski met on Friday with a delegation from OSCE, led by OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid and Head of OSCE’s Mission to North Macedonia, Ambassador Clemens Koja. State Secretary Magdalena Nestorovska also attended the meeting.
Minister Spasovski expressed at the meeting appreciation for the continuous and fruitful cooperation between the Interior Ministry and the OSCE Mission in Skopje, focused on strengthening institutional capacities, and stressed strategic priorities for resuming reforms in the police, fight against organized crime, corruption, terrorism, illegal migration and cyber-crime, as well as opportunities for strengthening the integrity of police officers.
Spasovski also underlined that Friday’s meeting is a strong symbol of partnership with OSCE, adding that North Macedonia’s OSCE 2023 chairpersonship is a recognition of the country’s progress in reforms and contribution to regional cooperation.
Moreover, he expressed assurance that the Interior Ministry will contribute to the success of the chairpersonship, by respecting and promoting the values of the organization, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.
OSCE Secretary General Schmid expressed at the meeting readiness to support North Macedonia during preparations to take over the chairpersonship and during the process itself, adding that security issues, she stressed, must be discussed from aspect of environment, respect for human rights and rule of law.
“Interlocutors expressed commitment to resume cooperation with even greater intensity and also focus on current issues in the area of confiscation of illegally-acquired assets and greater transparency in presenting fight against corruption, domestic abuse and gender equality results, aimed at establishing a constructive agenda for North Macedonia’s 2023 OSCE chairmanship,” the press release read.
