Minister Shekerinska says she has no ambitions to be NATO ambassador
Negotino, 5 January 2022 (MIA) – Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska said Wednesday she has no ambitions to become the next NATO ambassador of North Macedonia, adding she is currently focused on serving as minister of defence. “I believe that people shouldn’t make plans before finishing their job,” she said after visiting the Krivolak Military Training Center in east-central North Macedonia. North Macedonia, Shekerinska said, has an ambassador to the NATO Mission who is doing an excellent job for more than a year. “It’s important to strengthen our team in NATO, which we are doing almost every day,” she told reporters. Asked about the challenges North Macedonia could be possibly facing in 2022 and whether the country might be impacted security-wise by the Kosovo-Serbia issue and recent developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister Shekerinska said that the geopolitical situation recently has been quite unpredictable. “Being a NATO member, we welcomed the positive signals resulting from the direct talks between the US and Russia after a NATO-Russia meeting has been recently scheduled. We hope we will work to ease tensions and solve some of the open issues,” she stated, noting NATO’s objective is “stable, secure and prosperous Euro-Atlantic region.” North Macedonia, Shekerinska mentioned, last year deployed troops to join KFOR in Kosovo and will send more servicemen to the EU-led mission in BiH. “It is our investment in our region.” “North Macedonia is a lesson for many countries in the region that even the most difficult issues could be solved with political will,” the Minister stressed.
