Minister Murtezani signs Memorandum of cooperation in EU integrations with Moldova

Skopje, 13 December 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani held a meeting Friday with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gerasimov, during which they spoke about bilateral cooperation and joint ambitions for progress on the path to the EU. 

At the meeting, Murtezani and Gerasimov signed a Memorandum of cooperation between the governments of the two countries which would lay the foundation for a regular exchange of experiences and best practices in the negotiating process with the European Union, as well as strengthen the institutions of the two countries.

“The cooperation will focus on areas such as European legislation, EU funds management and boosting institutional efficiency with the goal of implementing reforms and preparing for integration within the Union,” the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release. 

According to the Ministry, as part of their conversation at the meeting, Murtezani and Gerasimov discussed the ongoing EU accession processes of North Macedonia and Moldova, emphasizing the challenges and opportunities in the harmonization of national policies with European standards. They also exchanged opinions on the key priorities of reforms, especially those related to strengthening institutions, promoting good governance and encouraging economic development.

“Minister Murtezani underlined the importance of solidarity and strategic partnerships between the candidate countries and aspiring members from the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe, welcoming Moldova’s proactive role in promoting European values and reaffirming North Macedonia’s readiness to deepen the cooperation through concrete activities and initiatives,” the Ministry said.
