Skopje, 25 February 2025 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Tuesday with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, Pernille Dahler Kardel, based in Belgrade. Talks focused on North Macedonia's progress in the European Union integration process, as well as regional enlargement perspectives, the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release.
Murtezani extended gratitude for Denmark's ongoing support for the European integration process of North Macedonia and the region. The Minister and the Ambassador stressed the importance of fulfilling the Copenhagen criteria as a key requirement for successful integration in the Union.
Interlocutors concluded that the Copenhagen criteria, which include stable institutions that guarantee democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and functioning of the market economy, represent an essential basis for the country's reform processes and progress towards full-fledged EU membership.
The meeting announced the Minister of European Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark Marie Bjerre's visit to the country in April 2025, the press release adds.
Murtezani pointed out that the visit will be significant in continuing the dialogue on the country's European file, especially in light of the upcoming EU Presidency, which Denmark takes over from Poland on July 1, 2025.
Interlocutors also tackled the priorities of the Danish Presidency, with a special emphasis on North Macedonia and the region, noting that amid the current geopolitical challenges, the revival of the enlargement policy in practice is an imperative and key factor for the stability and security of the region and beyond.
