Skopje, 18 September 2025 (MIA) - During the first day of his official visit to Washington, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski met with Senator Peter Welch, one of the sponsors of the new resolution in the U.S. Senate celebrating 34 years of North Macedonia’s independence and 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two states.

“Mucunski underscored the importance of this resolution as a confirmation of the strong friendship and trust that unite the Macedonian and American peoples. He stressed that the Republic of North Macedonia remains committed to shared Euro-Atlantic values, democracy, the rule of law, and the stability of the Western Balkans,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.

During the meeting, they also talked about “strengthening bilateral relations, supporting North Macedonia’s EU path, and the mutual assurance that the visit will create new opportunities for closer cooperation between the two countries.”

According to the Ministry, during the day Mucunski is scheduled to hold meetings with several U.S. Congress representatives and to speak at a ceremonial event organized on the occasion of September 8 – Independence Day, in the presence of the Macedonian diaspora.
