Minister Lloga meets Eurojust President Hamran

Skopje, 15 February 2024 (MIA) - Caretaker Justice Minister Krenar Lloga met with Eurojust President Ladislav Hamran in The Hague, Netherlands, on Thursday.

Talks focused on the importance of participation and active engagement of candidate countries through the liaison prosecutor as a demonstration of the commitment and progress in the European integration process, and as an opportunity to be part of the processes that are mainly reserved for EU member states, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.

Minister Lloga extended gratitude for the support of Eurojust, noting that as a result of the cooperation, an international criminal group has recently been uncovered in a successful joint operation.

"The Minister expressed confidence that cooperation will further intensify with the appointment of North Macedonia's Liaison Prosecutor, adding that the direct involvement of the Liaison Prosecutor will undoubtedly increase efficiency in the cooperation with Eurojust and in dealing with crime at an international level," reads the press release.

Lloga and Hamran also discussed possibilities of Eurojust support in providing successful examples of programs for automatic distribution of cases in the courts of EU member states, as one of the priorities of the Ministry of Justice in the process of digitization of judiciary towards enabling North Macedonia to achieve significant progress in judiciary reform and the rule of law.

In that regard, Minister Lloga pointed out that the restoring of the Judicial Council's legitimacy and the recent election of the new Chief Prosecutor has ensured two of the three key prerequisites for an independent and functional judiciary.
