Skopje, 7 February 2025 (MIA) – Bomb threats reported by schools early Friday are fake, police confirmed after inspecting the sites. Students got back to class, everything is under control, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska stated.
Earlier today, the Education Ministry set up an inter-sectorial group to tackle the situation after multiple elementary and high schools received bomb threats.
“All bomb threats are fake and students returned to school,” Janevska told a news conference.
Thanking the Interior Ministry for the swift response, she said she regretted that “someone is playing such games with the children.” The Minister called on schools to report bomb threats to police and to follow police protocols.
Janevska urged teachers and principals to use solely office email addresses, created by the Education Ministry.
According to initial information, she said, the bomb threats were sent to private emails, not office ones. “Which is why private emails shouldn’t be used.”
Security has been raised with double authentication when using office emails, Janevska said.
The Minister recommended that municipalities should hire security officers if possible and instal surveillance cameras in schools all the while telling school authorities to be vigilant “as to who enters during this sensitive period and why.”
Asked if she had any information as to who might sent the bomb threats, Janevska said it is up to the police to investigate, adding that the Education Ministry is in constant contact with the police.
Minister Janevska also reassured parents that they can feel safe because all measures have been taken.
