Minister Aliu visits State Data Centre of Serbia

Kragujevac, 5 July 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Information Society and Administration Azir Aliu alongside Serbian Minister of Information and Telecommunications Mihailo Jovanovikj visited the State Data Centre of Serbia in Kragujevac on Wednesday, where he was acquainted with its operation, for which there is an interest of opening such facility in North Macedonia, MIA’s Belgrade correspondent reports.

The State Data Centre in Kragujevac is built in 2019 and is located on a parcel of 4ha, data centre consist of two buildings total of 14.000m2. The first, larger building is in part intended for state institutions, ministries, agencies, and local governments. But part of that space is designated for commercial users. In the adjacent, smaller building, there is a separate data center used by the Serbian Interior Ministry, Ministry of Defence, the Army and Security Intelligence Agency.

This center is considered to have brought invaluable reputation to Serbia that many economically developed countries would envy, because today in Kragujevac global names like IBM, Huawei and Oracle use the capacity of this centre.

On the second day of his visit to Serbia, Minister Aliu was acquainted with all the details of the operation and the way of working of the Data Centre.

After visiting the State Data Centre of Serbia and its infrastructure, knowing that we are also in the process of creating the National Data Center in our country, I discussed and informed my colleagues about this, as well as about the Agency for Digital Transformation in our country, which will have four pillars - infrastructure, cybersecurity, academia and software solutions. Colleagues from Serbia were also open to talks over jointly applying for digital projects financed by the EU, so that in the future the two countries can better cooperate, Minister Aliu said.
